What AS9100 is on a shop floor
It is a registered quality system with a last audit, open nonconformances, and a legal entity the registrar recognizes. SAE publishes the standard (Source: SAE AS9100). A framed certificate with an expired date is a customer-access problem. IATF 16949 is the automotive cousin. ISO 13485 is the medical cousin. Do not mix the three because all three hang in lobbies.
Published aerospace cells sit higher than commodity fab when the certificate is real. Those cells live on the valuation owner. This page will not reprint them as if they were your quote.
NADCAP special processes are narrower than the building. The process is what the prime approved. Losing the process owner can lose the approval. That is not the same noun as AS9100. A heat-treat or NDT sign-off that sits on one metallurgist is a key-person file. Retention offers belong in the labor binder. The certificate transfer belongs with the registrar.
Do not brief a commodity fab multiple onto an AS9100 row, and do not brief an AS9100 row onto a shop whose certificate lapsed. The 223-day median close is enough time to call the registrar. It is not a recert promise. How it works still wants the last audit before a tour. ITAR, EAR, and CMMC stay in their own folders. This page will not steal those titles.
How does an asset sale treat AS9100?
Certificates often sit on the selling entity. An asset deal can require a new registration, customer bridge audits, or a gap that pauses shipments. ITAR and EAR can sit on the same file and still belong in a different binder (Source: DDTC). A 60-day DDTC notice for foreign-person control of a registrant is not an AS9100 transfer plan.
A buyer who treats ISO 9001 as a prime substitute has misread the purchase order. If the PO named AS9100, ISO 9001 is file cleanliness on a general shop. NADCAP is narrower than the building. ITAR and EAR can sit on the same file and still belong in different binders. A 60-day DDTC notice is not a registrar transfer. Keep the folders labeled. Published aerospace cells live on the valuation owner. This page will not reprint them as your quote.
How it works still wants the last audit. FAQ owns the questions. The aerospace owner is the industry home. Jason Taken will not transfer the certificate.
Diligence that actually matters
Last audit, open NCRs, customer escapes, and whether NADCAP special processes sit on a person who is leaving. BizBuySell’s 223-day manufacturing median close (Source: BizBuySell) is enough time to call the registrar. It is not a recert promise.
| Noun | Gate | Different binder |
|---|---|---|
| AS9100 | Aerospace QMS | ITAR / EAR |
| NADCAP | Named special process | Building certificate |
| ISO 9001 | General QMS | Not a prime substitute |
Primes do not treat a verbal recert plan as access. Open nonconformances that have aged past the registrar’s window are a customer-access discount. A framed certificate with an expired date is the same discount with better lighting. Published aerospace cells sit higher than commodity fab when the certificate is real. Those cells live on the valuation owner. This page will not reprint them as if they were your quote.
ITAR section 122.4(b) can put a 60-day DDTC notice on foreign-person control of a registrant. That notice is not an AS9100 transfer plan. EAR is a third binder. CMMC and DFARS cyber can sit on the same file and still belong somewhere else. Keep the quality certificate, the export registration, and the cyber posture in separate folders even when one aerospace customer asked for all three.
How it works still wants the last audit before a tour. FAQ owns the questions. The glossary hands you to the aerospace owner, then to a confidential intro call. Jason Taken is a business broker. He does not transfer certificates.
A lapsed AS9100 file is a prime-access problem the day the registrar says so. Call the registrar before anyone quotes the aerospace cell. Do not brief a recert hope as access.
