What the standard actually gates

It gates work that named ISO 13485 on the purchase order or the quality agreement. ISO publishes the standard (Source: ISO 13485). Quality systems is the operations home. AS9100 and IATF 16949 are sibling gates in other customer sets. A shop that holds ISO 9001 only does not sit in the medical column.

Federal Reserve G.17 printed manufacturing capacity utilization at 76.0% in July 2026 (Source: Fed G.17). Utilization is not a certificate. Do not brief a busy shop as if the QMS were current.

Complaint files, CAPA logs, and change-control records are how a buyer sees whether the QMS is alive. A certificate with a clean lobby and a dead CAPA system is not the medical row. FDA establishment registration is a different binder. Do not merge them. Utilization at 76.0 percent nationally does not prove the QMS is current. A busy clean room can still have a stale certificate.

How it works still wants the last audit before anyone quotes the medical cell. The operations quality-systems page is the process home. The medical-device sub-sector page is the industry home. This glossary page stays on the noun. Jason Taken will not transfer the certificate. Counsel and the registrar run that.

What happens if the certificate sits on the selling entity?

An asset deal can drop the registration. Device customers then treat the buyer as a new supplier. That is a sales-risk file, not a clerical delay. FDA establishment registration is still a different binder. Do not merge them in the CIM because both say “medical.”

A buyer who treats ISO 9001 as a medical substitute has misread the quality agreement. Device customers will not treat a verbal recert plan as a certificate. An asset deal can drop the registration and make the buyer look like a new supplier. Bridge orders, if granted, are a courtesy. The quality manager’s retention is often the real transfer plan. FDA registration remains a different binder. Utilization prints do not prove the QMS is current.

How it works still wants the last audit. FAQ owns the questions. The medical-device owner is the industry home. Jason Taken will not transfer the certificate.

Diligence a buyer should demand

The last audit, open NCRs, complaint files, and whether the quality manager is staying. BizBuySell’s manufacturing median remains 2.75x SDE on the 2021–2025 sold set (Source: BizBuySell). That print is not a medical premium.

Device customers write quality agreements that name the certificate, the complaint path, and the change-control rules. A lapse is lost access, not a filing delay. FDA establishment registration is still a different binder. A 510(k) or other device file, if it exists, is a third. Do not merge them in the CIM because all three say medical.

An asset deal can drop the registration. The buyer then looks like a new supplier. Bridge orders, if the customer will grant them, are a customer courtesy, not a right. The quality manager’s retention is often the real transfer plan. A second chair who has never hosted a registrar is not a transfer plan.

How it works still wants the last audit before anyone quotes the medical cell. FAQ owns the questions. The glossary hands you to the medical-device owner, then to a confidential intro call. Jason Taken is a business broker, not a registrar and not FDA counsel.

A clean-room tour is not a certificate. Ask for the last registrar letter, the open CAPA list, and whether the management representative is staying through close. If those three items are weak, you do not have the medical row no matter how the lobby looks. The owner page keeps the multiple math. This page stays on the noun.

If the quality agreement names ISO 13485 and the certificate is expired, the agreement is already in default in the customer’s eyes. Say that in the process memo before anyone quotes the medical cell.

What this page will not do

It will not transfer the certificate or invent a turn. Jason Taken is a business broker. The glossary sends you to the owner. After the noun is straight, book a confidential intro call.
