What a teaser may say

Process family. Size band. Region, not intersection. Earnings range, not tax returns. Equipment character (“late-model 3- and 4-axis cells”), not serials. Why a buyer should sign an NDA. That is enough for a searcher to know whether the file matches a buybox.

Census CBP 2023 shows 68.4% of manufacturing establishments under 20 employees (Source: Census CBP). On that map a named teaser is a rumor with a letterhead. Small towns identify a “precision shop on the west side” in an afternoon.

What a teaser may not say

Legal name. Owner name. Customer logos. Employee headcount so specific a competitor can call the second shift. ITAR registration as a brag. The exact asking price if the seller has not authorized a public number. When to tell employees is a separate clock from the teaser launch.

Federal Reserve 76.0% utilization is a national print (Source: Federal Reserve G.17). It does not belong on a teaser as proof the shop is “hot.”

How does a buyer get past the blind page?

Signed NDA, written buybox, and staged disclosure. BizBuySell’s 2.75x SDE median is not printed on the teaser as a promise (Source: BizBuySell). The book behind the NDA carries the recast.

How to write a teaser that still qualifies buyers

Give enough process that a plastics buyer can self-select out of a CNC file. Give a size band so a searcher who needs $2 million of EBITDA does not take an NDA on an owner-operator SDE shop. Give a region large enough that three towns still fit. Give a reason to care: certification, proprietary product, or a documented aftermarket — without naming the brand the competitor already suspects.

Do not give a map pin. Do not give a photo of the distinctive crane everyone in the county knows. Do not give a customer percentage so exact that the second-shift lead can identify the file. Do not give an asking price if the seller has not authorized a public number.

Distribution is a confidentiality choice. A named list of 40 buyers under NDA is different from a portal. This site does not invent listings. The teaser is a tool inside a confidential process, not a marketplace dump. The glossary only names the nameless page.

Isolation

The glossary keeps teaser and CIM from sharing an H1. The FAQ holds the question. Jason Taken is a business broker. Educational information only. This site does not invent listings.

When you need a nameless page that still attracts the right room, book a confidential intro call.

Distribution choices and the off-limits list that must exist first

A named list of 25 buyers under a process memo is still confidential if the page stays nameless. A portal that wants a street address is not. A trade-association blast that includes two competitors the seller named as off-limits is a process failure, not a teaser failure.

Name the competitors who must not see even a nameless page. Name the customers who would panic if a vendor forwarded a PDF. Name the employees who are not ready. Then send. Doing it in the opposite order is how confidential processes become town rumors. This definition names the nameless page, not the named book. Bring the off-limits list, the region you will allow, and whether an asking number is authorized. Without those three, a nameless page is either too loud or too mute. Selling confidentially is the playbook. After the nameless page is ready, a confidential intro call is the conversion path.

What a blind teaser is not

It is not a CIM. It is not a listing this site will invent. It is not a map pin. It is not a photo of the distinctive crane everyone in the county knows. It is not a customer percentage so exact that the second-shift lead can identify the file. It is not an asking price unless the seller authorized a public number.

How it shows up: nameless, off-limits-aware, and just specific enough to qualify a buybox. Process, size band, region, and a capability sentence. Distribution is a confidentiality choice. A named list of 40 buyers under NDA is different from a portal. Write the off-limits list before the first send. Write whether employees may hear a rumor from a vendor. Census CBP 2023’s shop count is why a distinctive crane identifies a “blind” page in a small market (Source: Census CBP). Review every image and its metadata before anyone clicks send.
