What does an FAQ page decide?
It decides the short answer and the handoff. “How much is a manufacturing business worth?” is a size-band question that lives on how much is my manufacturing business worth and on valuation. The FAQ restates the rule: Main Street manufacturing in BizBuySell’s 2021–2025 sold set cleared at a 2.75x median SDE, and larger files use adjusted EBITDA in different bands (Source: BizBuySell). It does not republish the entire valuation cluster.
SBA questions hand off to 7(a) for manufacturing. The published box is still $5 million with a 10% change-of-ownership injection under SOP 50 10 8 (Source: SBA). WARN questions hand off to WARN. Environmental questions hand off to Phase I and All Appropriate Inquiries (Source: EPA / 40 C.F.R. Part 312).
Glossary owns the nouns — peg, OLV, ISRA, novation — so this index is not a second dictionary. States and cities own geography. Sell and buy own the process.
How should you read the table?
Use the question column if you arrived from search. Use the owner column if you already know the cluster. Do not treat an FAQ slug as permission to skip the owner. The owner has the tables, the worked examples, and the size-band math.
Census CBP 2023 still counted 284,452 manufacturing establishments, 68.4% of them under 20 employees (Source: Census CBP). That national file is context for every answer that mentions shop scale. It is not a reason to invent a local print.
The forty questions are the ones that showed up in keyword research and in intro calls: worth, multiple, machine-shop worth, margin, concentration, SBA, peg, OLV, Phase I, ITAR, QoE, timeline, fees, whether you need a broker, SDE, adjusted EBITDA, asset versus stock, license, federal WARN, mini-WARN, ISRA, AAI, 504, seller-note equity, earn-out, selling the dirt, customer-owned tooling, field exam, ABL, confidentiality, telling employees, Form 8594, CIM, teaser, novation, CFIUS, job shop versus product, size band, state multiple, and the letter of intent. Each child page opens with the answer, then refuses to become a second pillar.
If you are a seller, start with worth, timeline, confidentiality, and fees, then jump to the seller pillar. If you are a buyer, start with SBA, peg, Phase I, and concentration, then jump to the buyer pillar. If you are arguing a noun, leave this index and open the glossary. Geography still starts on states or cities. The FAQ will not pick a closing state for you.
A 223-day BizBuySell manufacturing median is a planning number on the timeline page. It is not a promise on the FAQ index. A $5 million 7(a) cap is a product fact on the SBA page. It is not a reason to stretch asking EV on a worth page. Those distinctions are why the owner URL exists.
Jason Taken will not run a forty-question quiz on an intro call. He will ask what you own or what you want to buy, which process, and which state the deed uses. The FAQ exists so those nouns are already straight when you book. If a child page and its owner disagree, the owner wins. This index is a map. It is not a second recast and it is not a listing desk. How you use it is the same every time: one question, one owner, then paper.
Educational information only. Confirm legal, tax, lending, and environmental questions with the right professional in the closing state. A FAQ sentence that cites SOP 50 10 8 or 40 C.F.R. Part 312 is a briefing, not an opinion of counsel. Federal capacity utilization and ISM prints describe a year. They do not answer a concentration question. Keep climate in a memo. Keep the owner URL in the letter.
What this FAQ will not do
It will not invent a state multiple. It will not invent a city CES number. It will not treat “listed as a license state” as a substitute for counsel. It will not promise a 223-day close because BizBuySell printed a manufacturing median. Educational information only.
Jason Taken is a business broker. Confirm legal, tax, lending, and environmental questions with the right professional. The conversion path after you read the owner URL is a confidential intro call.
If two questions sound similar — SDE versus adjusted EBITDA, federal WARN versus mini-WARN — open both child pages. They are split on purpose so each H1 owns one noun. The glossary then keeps the definition from drifting back into the FAQ.
Which question should you open first?
How you use this directory is simple. Pick the question you actually have. Read the short page. Follow the owner. Do not collect forty tabs and call that diligence. A plant file still needs tax returns, a serialized machine list, and a written buybox or a written recast. The FAQ is the map to those pages. It is not the underwrite. Start with worth and confidentiality if you own the plant. Start with SBA and Phase I if you are buying. Geography still starts on states or cities after the question is straight.
